To this day, broadcasters (public and commercial alike) point to this google map as a breakthrough in local crisis coverage response. The 80 hours of non-stop local radio was impressive enough but this use of new media (plus the twitter and the streaming and the web updates) made the local service a global service. Kudos KPBS.
