It's Baja and Bayou now...not BBQ
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 By BoDubya - Oct 28, 2009
The town of Brookline made the Roadhouse dispose of their smoker because it was choking the neighborhood. Ouch! The menu's now a tex/mex hybrid type thing. It might almost be too extensive - with everything from flautas mole to chile relleno to blackberry stout ribs. I had a couple of starters the last time I was there. The queso fundido comes with house made tortilla chips that will satisfy cheesiest cheese craving. It went well the the Prima Pils from Victory Brewing. The popcorn shrimp were satisfactory - although the spicy mayo that came with it was probably the highlight. I washed it down with an Ithaca Flower Power IPA. The pulled pork sliders were on flaky little biscuits with coleslaw and pickles - the meat could have been a little more tangier and flavorful. I think I had a Green Flash IPA with that. Here's the thing with bbq and Boston - the point is moot. If you're from (or regularly go to) Memphis or Austin or South Carolina you probably won't ... More »

Here's the thing with bbq and Boston - the point is moot. If you're from (or regularly go to) Memphis or Austin or South Carolina you probably won't enjoy bbq in Boston. Go buy a lobster roll, duh. The best bbq I've had lately was at a pig roast in someone's back yard in Jamaica Plain. Back to the Roadhouse. Have I told you about the beer? This place is huge with a front and back bar with 20 rotating draft lines each. This is why I go to the Roadhouse. If you're with a large group of people who crave craft beer you can't beat this place - their patio is larger than half the restaurants in Brookline. It's still a little early to see how this new menu is going to pan out. I'll pop in for an entree soon and report back. Boston bar blog: http://publicanpost.blogspot.com/ « Hide

great neighborhood bar and restaurant
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 By Martha - May 16, 2009
After moving from a dowtown location to the brookline area, I am so happy that to find a friendly and casual establishment in my neighborhood. This place is great for a beer after work or a large group for dinner. The food is good, not incredible, but good and the beer is great. I find the service to be laid-back and "neighborhood-ey." Getting a table quickly on the weekends isn't easy, so I recommend a weekday or lunch. The outdoor seating in summer is WONDERFUL!

Poor Management
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 By James - May 6, 2009
How about an honest review by a patron, 5 stars is absurd. Walking up the the restaurant, my first impressions were not good. The staff was standing around outside the entrance smoking cigarettes and talking to hostess. I ordered ribs, good but overcooked. Cornbread was simply laughable. It was overly sweet as if cake mix was used. Frankly, it shows either frightening taste on the chef or sheer laziness. Service was very slow. This place has potential, unfortunately the management needs to motivate staff to act professionally; make real cornbread, don't send out overcooked food, don't make people wait, and don't have the staff smoking next to the outdoor seating and having a great time shooting the breeze in front of everyone!

OVERCHARGED MY CARD
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 By Katie - Apr 15, 2009
overcharged my card by $4... not much to me, but if one person's doing this repeatedly to a good portion of customers, i'm sure it adds up for them. CHECK WHAT YOU'RE CHARGED VS YOUR RECEIPT... food was only ok--fries were quite disappointing, otherwise i probably wouldn't have even cared.

Terrible Food and Inept Service
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 By drnutjob - Mar 24, 2009
Our group of 6 overordered so we ate a wide range of their offerings. Everything was terrible. Some were disgusting. The BBQ was bland, lacked smoke, lacked kick and was drowned in Kraft BBQ sauce. Everything else was bland or REALLY salty. The service was terrible, too. Kept forgetting orders and getting everything wrong. I cant for the life of me understand why people go here.
