- Dec 23, 2010 I called Precision to come out to check my garage door, which would not go down. They were supposed to arrive between 6-8 pm. They arrived at 9:30 pm. I was told that the Torquemaster system in my garage door was bad and needed to be replaced for a total cost of more than $750 which did not include a fuel charge of $15 and a service fee of $65. After checking on the internet to see if this was a reasonable cost, I realized that something was wrong. I asked the technician to just charge me for the service cost and I would call around in the morning. He then "called his boss" and was allowed to offer me the conversion to a conventional torsion spring for $399, but would only have a 90 day warranty in contrast to the lifetime warranty offered with the $750 charge. I told him I would still need to check prices. Tennessee Overhead Door quoted me a much lower price over the phone and would come out to my house that evening at 4:30. - Nov 24, 2010 I called Precision to discuss my garage door problem (needed adjustment- torsion spring was fine but needed rewinding). I was left with the impression from the phone call that they would rewind spring with a $65 service call. Told technician when he arrived that I did not want to replace spring since it is a very small garage door (garage door for lawn equipment; just rewind spring. He said he would look and see. He returned and left me with a very strong impression that he would not have to replace the spring; just rewind. 10 minutes later I check on his progress and he has a new spring up.
