| I like eating here. I have never had a negative experience here as described by one reviewer. There are some homeless folk in this area but so is the County Jail. In fact I quite often see law enforcement officers dinning here. Warning! Do not be on your mobile phone when you approach the counter. You will be rebuked. Two Thumbs up from me. | Go at your own risk, but be aware that people have been attacked while going in and out. You have to run the gauntlet of beggars to get in, avoid the drunks inside (they serve beer), and hope you aren't mugged when you leave. I was attacked out front recently. When I asked for help, the counter people they wouldn't even call the police. When the police spoke with the owner later, all Bill could say was "well, let's just forget about it." It's not a family friendly place. It's the last open business on an empty block, in a forgotten part of downtown. There are people sleeping on the sidewalks in front of the vacant storefronts all down the block. While you're eating, the beggars who have scored a few bucks for a hot dog and a beer will obnoxiously chat you up for money. Don't count on the employees to help you. They won't, and you're on your own. "Dive" doesn't begin to describe it. That would be a step up. The lighting, even during the day, makes it feel like a bar - dank and dangerous. The walls and ceiling are smoke-covered, the booths are sticky and crusty. The place hasn't been swept out in decades, and the counter is covered in food droppings. Don't take the kids, refill your mace, and wash your hand after you've been there. To be avoided for your own safety. « Hide |
