| I'm in two minds about this comic book shop, as I write this review. Here are the reasons why, - On the one hand they did have some back issues from a couple of years back that I was looking for. None of the 2-3 comic book shops nearest to me had these. That said, this was only the third comic book shop that I phoned to check for these issues, ie I may have been able to get these at another closer comic book place, if I'd continued looking. These specific issues were not that rare to find. - On the other hand, they charged me 15-20% higher than cover price for each comic book, taking into account that: 1. They did not have to special order these items for me, ie these were already on hand at the store and they did not have to pay the publisher extra to obtain these for me. 2. These comics were >2 years old and not part of 'an event' to make these hard to obtain. 3. I picked up other related comic books (ie one issue before or after the ones that I sought) at either retail price or discounted to $0.50-$1 at other comic book shops, hence my difficulty reconciling the higher than cover price charged. So, granted that the increased price included bags and boards, which alleviates the extra charge a bit, though this still was >100% more per comic book than I've ever had to pay for bags and boards. The other bone I have to pick wrt bags and boards is that I was 'locked in' to buy these, ie I did not have the option, as ALL other comic book shops I've been to (including stores in a few other countries) to not buy these (as I have a number of bags and boards at home, which works out much cheaper than the premium charged per comic by these comic book shops). I asked to not have these bags and boards included and was advised that the price was the same, so it was a no-brainer for me to take these with the comic books. I though this was an unnecessary 'Strong-arm' technique to force me to buy extras that I did not need AND charge me a premium. This is the reason why, ie on pricing policies alone that I would find it hard to justify anything higher than a 'below average' rating. The reason that I have rated this store 'Average', is due to: 1. This was my first (and only) experience at this store (I definitely will not go back after this experience), hence I don't think it's fair to heavily penalize this store based on my one experience, ie others mileage/experiences may be totally positive 2. The store DID have the issues that I was looking for, ie I did not have to make third/fourth/fifth calls to other stores to obtain these comics. 3. I could have asked the price for these comics when I called, and not have experienced the 'sticker shock' when I got onsite or I could have tried coming back for their 'Black Friday' sale and who knows, I might have gotten these cheaper. I'm curious if other readers think that I'm being too pedantic about this? « Hide |
