When you moderate users' submissions, you help us determine which ones stay, and which ones don't make the cut. You can moderate other users' submissions. In fact, we'd like it if you did (but, please, read Moderation Guidelines first). To get started:
- Click the My MapMaker tab in the Left Panel.
- Click the Moderate tab. Those orange markers
you see are all the features in your current map view. You'll also see any areas that you've added to your Neighborhoods. Google Map Maker also displays ny areas you have added to your which are available for your moderating pleasure.
Don't see any features, or see only features from a previous search? Try zooming out and clicking Refresh moderation list >> - Select a feature to moderate by clicking its marker in the Left Panel or Map view. An Info Window appears.
- Click Moderate.
Ok, now comes the fun part. You'll see five different options. Take a look at the feature you're moderating, and keep in mind these three questions:
- Is the location of the feature accurate?
- Is the feature labeled correctly?
- Does it get the a-ok according to our Map Maker Terms of Service?
Mull it over, and select one of the following:
- Approve - If you think a User Submission is accurate, give it the green light. If the user has marked features that aren't visible on the map, you can approve it. -- just make sure that the feature exists in reality and isn't a figment of someone's vivid imagination (we wish Narnia were real, too).
- Deny - You can deny a User Submission if it's false or inaccurate in terms of its location and labeling. Please see the guidelines for more information on the type of content that can (and should!) be denied.
- Request Details - If you're not sure whether a User Submission should be approved, don't get stuck -- get more information. This will send the user an anonymous email with your question and a link to the feature. The user can then submit comments back via the Description tab when they next edit it. It's also useful to check out the History tab to see how a feature has been edited over time. You can also request more info if the user has marked a feature that cannot be seen on the image. By requesting details, the user will be able to confirm the existence of the feature.
- I am not sure about my vote - If you're not sure what to do with a particular User Submission and don't feel like dealing with it, then this is the option for you.
- Report Abuse - Any User Submission can be reported if it contains bad or incorrect data, commercial information or Spam, or if it violates the Google Map Maker Terms of Service. If a Submission doesn't have any of these things, but still seems sketchy, you can report that too.
Now, click OK to submit, or Cancel to exit.
