Street Views
Click this image to see this Street View in Google Maps

In certain locations, you can view and navigate within street-level imagery (view an example in San Francisco). To do this:

  1. Navigate to a location.
  2. Do one of the following:
  • To view street-level imagery for the location closest to the center of your current view, at the top of the navigation controls, click Street View button.
  • To view street-level imagery for a specific location, click and drag Street View button to the location you want. Roads with available street-level imagery appear with a blue border. A thumbnail image shows you a preview of the location your cursor is over.
  • Navigate to the location you want. Zoom in all the way. If street-level imagery is available, it appears when you zoom in all the way.
A street-level view appears for this location with an overview map in the bottom right corner of the view. A Pegman icon Human icon appears in the overview map. Note that the green arrow points in the direction you're looking. To expand the overview map, click Overview map button in the top right corner of this map.
  1. To rotate the view, do any of the following:
  • Drag the imagery right or left. In some locations, you can drag the imagery up to look skyward.
  • Click the arrows in the top left corner of the view or drag the ring outside the arrows.
  • Use the A and D keys to rotate left and right, and the W and S keys to tilt up and down (you'll need to click on the street view image first for this to work).
  1. To zoom in or out, do one of the following:
  • Click Zoom in button or Zoom out button
  • Double click the point on the image to zoom in.
  1. To navigate along a street, click one of the white arrows overlaid on the street to move in that direction, or use the arrow keys. You can navigate on to another street once you reach the center of an intersection. As you move your mouse within Street View, you'll also notice a 'pancake' shape lying flat to the object where the mouse is pointing. Double clicking the pancake transports you to the best panorama in that direction. When there's a little magnifying glass in the bottom right of the pancake, double-clicking it will zoom in on the current image, rather than transport you to a closer location. Street names appear in the top left corner of the view.
  2. To close the view, click Close buttonClose info window button or Close Street View or Close Street View.

You can view street-level imagery with directions. Once you have obtained directions, click a camera icon in the left panel.

You can embed a Street View in your website or blog. Learn more.
