How Address Maker works

  1. Google Partnerships: Google collaborates with NGOs and local governments who possess deep knowledge of their target underserved urban communities.

  2. On-the-Ground Data Collection: Using a specialized Android app developed by Google, the partner NGO collects geographical information about dwellings and infrastructure (like lanes and points of interest) in the area.

  3. Plus Code Assignment & Distribution: Each dwelling receives a unique Plus Code address. This code is then printed on an "address board" or physical sign, which is prominently displayed at the dwelling.

  4. Activation & Recognition: The NGO works with crucial local institutions such as government bodies, banks, and postal services to ensure these new Plus Code addresses are officially recognized and usable for a wide range of services

  5. Google Maps Integration: The collected geographical data is imported into Google Maps, making these new Plus Code addresses navigable and discoverable for everyone.
