The Challenge

Despite being vibrant economic hubs, over 16 million residents in Brazilian favelas lacked formal postal codes (CEP), making them "geographically invisible". While 61% of residents shop online, logistics and emergency services often could not find their homes, forcing residents to wait hours on main roads to intercept deliveries. This absence of a digital footprint created a persistent barrier to civic recognition.

The Solution

naPorta, a social impact logtech, collaborated with Google to create a functional digital address system.

• Local Mapper Network: The project trained residents to act as mappers, leveraging their intimate knowledge of community alleys and reference points.

• Data Validation: A tech team cross-referenced field data with satellite imagery to ensure every address was compatible with global logistics systems.

• Tangible Identity: Physical blue address plaques were installed at every household to make the digital codes visible to all.

The Impact

• Last-Mile Logistics: Over 80,000 residents across 55 favelas now have functional addresses, empowering them to receive online purchases directly.

• Citizenship & Healthcare: Residents use their "Digital CEP" to access credit, register for government services, and call for emergency medical aid.

• Award-Winning Scale: Recognized as a top urban solution by the Dubai International Award, the project is now expanding to several other Brazilian states.
